What a days!

What a days! Someone has hacked themselves into my mailbox and is currently pretending to be me. The person has e-mailed all of my contacts and explained that I’ve been robbed in Madrid,.. and that
I need money. The whole situation turned into a flood of phone calls and messages from close friends to old acquaintances who all wanted to know what was going on, and if the e-mail was true, fortunately it wasn’t! Reconsidering, I recommend this for everyone as I haven’t had such good talks with so many people since I had phone line:-)

Thorvaldsen Antique Market-Copenhagen

My family market in Copenhagen.

Spring is upon us and our market will be taking place on  the 27th of April. This year we have relocated from ↜Gammel Strand↜ and will now be found at Bertel Thorvaldsens Plads by Torvaldsens museum. Therefore, we have changed our name to Thorvaldsen Antique Market. We are looking forward to an eventful summer filled with great antiques and great people in historical and beautiful surroundings.

Pierre Cartellier

Sculptor, 1757-1831]
The style in the period 1750–1850 is known now as Neoclassicism, in order to distinguish it from the classical architecture of ancient Greece or Rome, or of the Renaissance. In the second half of the 18th century architects began to look closely at growing architectural evidence for how Romans decorated and furnished their houses. The new style that emerged as a result of this exploration that later came to be known as Neoclassicism was called the “true style” in its time. The absolute right of the orders in Renaissance architecture, and the over-elaborate fakery of the Baroque and Rococo styles began to fall out of favour with architects and artists, who sought a more “honest” and “true” style. They found this in the geometrically correct forms and ordered symmetry of Ancient Greek and Roman styles, and once again a new generation of architects turned their attention to the past. Rococo was a decorative style based in France most often used in interior design, painting, architecture, and sculpture. Normally associated with the reign of King Louis XV, the movement actually began in the 17th century. With the rise of the middle class, the death of Louis XIV at this time, the high society in Paris became the pinnacle of fashion.
Rococo was a light, ornamental, and elaborate style of art, identified by elegant and detailed ornamentation and the use of curved, asymmetrical forms. The style appealed to the senses rather than intellect, stressing beauty over depth. The movement portrayed the life of the aristocracy, preferring themes of romance, mythology, fantasy, every day life.
The Rococo style is sometimes considered to be the end of the Baroque period and was eventually replaced by Neoclassicism during the American and French Revolutions at the end of the eighteenth century. Read more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rococo
