Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010) is recognized as one of the most respected
artists of our time. She was born in Paris and moved to New York in 1938
when she married the American art historian Robert Goldwater. She lived and worked in New York until her death in
2010. Bourgeois came to wide recognition with her retrospective at the
Museum of Modern Art in 1982, and since that time has exhibited in major
museums all over the world.
